How to use wine scoring to your advantage...

Wine ratings? What do they mean? They can be helpful but how? If you find a wine critic or entity that has a scoring system for wine, find out what it is they take into consideration for their scoring. How do they break down their assessment of the wine?  What is the highest score? What is the average score? What do they consider above average? Once you try some of the wines they have scored, then determine if you agree with their assessment. Do this several times and then and only then use them as a guide to wines you might like.  Trust your own palette first. Use critics only if your palette agrees most of the time with theirs. This is the best way to use their score as a tool or guide to finding new fun wine favorites.
